Moscow Renaissance Fair 2008 artist statements Home

Poster artist: Paula Gibbs

Paula Marie Gibbs has always been interested in art; her mother says that she started making recognizable drawings at age three. Although her degree is in history, she took a few art courses in college and enjoyed the opportunity to specialize in illustration at Rhode Island School of Design, completing certificates in Children's Book Illustration and Natural Science Illustration.

Paula is especially interested in styles and subjects that appeal to both children and adults, a prominent feature of her Renaissance Fair poster entry. For the past few years she has been trying--and failing--to paint something in time for the contest deadline; this year, she finished at 1 am on Saturday morning and ran down Main Street, painting in hand, just before noon. Paula is grateful that her work appeals to her fellow Moscow residents and is so honored that her painting was chosen! She currently coordinates a graduate program at WSU and enjoys living in downtown Moscow with her husband and small dog.

Program artist: Marisa Gibler

Marisa Gibler has lived in Moscow for eight years, first as a student at the University of Idaho and now as a wife and mother, active in the community.

Her artwork has appeared in MaryJanesFarm magazine, on several Oracle Shack posters, her son Avi's bedroom wall and countless last-minute birthday cards.

This is the first year she's entered the poster contest after procrastinating for seven years.

The Moscow Renaissance Fair is a community celebration of spring held each year on the first weekend of May. The fair is directed by a private, non-profit community group and is the only self-sustaining festival of its kind in the region.
